I just spent an awesome week at the Pere Marquette Lodge, just outside of Grafton IL. The lodge is on the banks of the Illinois river, a few miles upstream from where it merges with the Mississippi river. I assisted at the Illinois Workshops, which holds annual week-long continuing education classes for professional photographers. That location is wonderful, as it is very remote, quiet, virtually no cell phone service, and gives you the opporturnity to relax and thoroughly immerse yourself in learning for 8+ hours a day.
The class I was in was taught by Lori Nordstom, a reknown photographer whose specialty is Maternity and Newborn portraiture.
Here are a couple of images that I took while in the class.
In order to become more proficient in this style of portraiture, I am offering a complimentary Maternity session to the first 5 expectant mothers who contact me for an appointment. This time is so often overlooked as a reason to capture it through portraiture. It can be a wonderful affirmation to your baby to have those portraits as she grows up, to know it was so loved before she was born.
If you haven't seen this musical yet - it is awesome! I attended the matinee performance of Wicked last weekend and it really makes you think differently about the Wizard of Oz!

At the Associated Professional Photographers of Illinois Annual convention - held in Decatur, I was elected as President!
I've spent the last 9 years on the board of directors working my way up to the top & I've finally made it.
There will be alot of work to do as the Illinois association is merging with the Indiana association to create a new regional assocation, and as President, I will be having to help with some work in making all of this happen, but it will be exciting.
The best perk will be that I get to attend all of the surrounding state's conventions, so I will get to learn even more things to bring back and put to use here!
OMG! I've just finished the advertising poster for the Iroquois West High School Theater Dept's 2007 Play. This year they chose the classic Rodgers & Hammerstein's The Sound of Music. (Which has been one of my top 10 fav movies since it came out.)
The actors got together twice, here at the studio, to be photographed in costume, portraying various vignettes of their performance to be used in creating their publicity poster. Then I got to do the fun part - putting those images together to illustrate the story of their production.
As a plug for them - they will take the stage of the Iroquois West High School in Gilman, IL.
There will be 5 performances to fit into everyone's schedule.
They start off on Friday, March 23rd at 7:30 pm with a following performance the next nite, Saturday the 23th. Sunday the 25th has a matinee at 2:30. Their performances will then be reprised the next Friday and Saturday nites (30 & 31st), again at 7:30pm.
These posters will be in businesses all around the area, so keep an eye out for one to see it up close, where it will look much more awesome than online. Plan to attend, as these students are awesome actors! (Just click on the poster to see it larger)

We are starting the Snippets with a really fun image created for and of Jarrid Norden of Central High School. Along with all of his other activities, he's gotten into Martial Arts with a real interest in weapons.
To illustrate all of his weapons, we created this composite during his Sr. Portrait Session.

I've finally succumbed to the lure of the blog. Hopefully this will be updated on a semi-regular basis letting folks see new things I'm coming up with here at the studio.
There will be Sneek-Peeks at projects I'm working on from time to time, or a few Snippets from a session.
Also advance notice of specials and promotions will show up here first!
Feel free to leave comments - there could be a prize for the lucky poster.
